About UEA
Kailua-Kona is a growing community on the West coast of Hawaii's Big Island. Known for its gorgeous sunsets, friendly people and ease of life, the town keeps its small town feel and yet is home to the Ford Ironman World Triathalon Championships, the International Billfishers Tournament and the Lili'uokalani Long Distance Canoe Race Championship. The town is the center of tourist activities for the Big Island but has a deep and heart-warming charm. Located on Hawaii's Big Island, Kailua-Kona is a 35 minute drive to some of the finest resorts and golf courses in the world and a 35 minute drive (the other way) to the Kona Coffee belt.
The Big Island is home to Kilauea Volcano, the worlds most active volcano and Mauna Kea the world's premier site for astronomical observation. There is truly nowhere on Earth like the Big Island and it's energy is deep but tangible. To understand the formation of the islands, the birth of the culture that blossomed here and the continuing story of the last major population center to be discovered on the Earth is to touch the magic that brings millions of visitors from all over the world year after year.
